I Giuda nascono nel 2007, dalle ceneri ancora ardenti dei Taxi, band punk-rock di culto della scena romana nei primi anni 2000. La tragica scomparsa del batterista di quel gruppo induce il cantante Ntendarere "Tenda" Damas e il chitarrista Lorenzo Moretti a dare vita ad una nuova band. Così nascono i GIUDA, che nella formazione attuale, insieme a Tenda e Lorenzo, includono il chitarrista Michele Malagnini (già negli Steaknives) il bassista Danilo Valeri (nei primissimi Taxi) e il batterista Daniele Tarea(membro della punkrock band Bagbies). Fin dall'inizio il sound dei Giuda è pieno di riferimenti all'epoca prepunk dei primi anni '70, l'era del glitter rock quando suonare era soprattutto una questione di colossali riff di chitarra, atteggiamenti appariscenti, sperimentazioni sonore e divertimento allo stato puro. I Giuda fanno propria quell'attitudine derivata dal glam e che si sarebbe presto evoluta nel punk, mescolandola con le sporche perversioni sonore di band come Third World War, Eddie And The Hot Rods e Cock Sparrer, per dare vita a un repertorio di classici inni rock con un tocco di glam al di fuori del tempo e delle mode. L'album di debutto ͞Racey Roller͟ esce nel 2011 e, notoriamente definito da Robin Wills (The Barracudas) come ͞Cock Sparrer incontra gli Equals͟, in breve diventa il must da non perdere nel circuito underground. ͞Racey Roller͟, registrato con strumenti e macchinari di studio analogici e vintage, ha un'iconica cover in stile, opera del disegnatore francese fanatico dell'epoca glam Tony CrazeeKid. Pubblicato in vari Paesi dalle etichette indie statunitensi Dead Beat Records e TKO, dalla Damaged Goods in Gran Bretagna e da Fungo Records in Italia, vende in totale oltre 10.000 copie.Phil King (musicista e compositore, bassista dei Lush e di Jesus And Mary Chain), fan dichiarato dei Giuda, a proposito di un concerto della band al Buffalo Bar di Londra nel 2011, scrive: "lo spettacolo dei Giuda mi ha riportato indietro ai tempi gloriosi nei quali mi trovavo ad ascoltare i gruppi punk nelle sale nascoste dei pub malfamati di Londra nel 1977". Robin Wills concorda e aggiunge che i Giuda sono "la band più divertente che mi è capitato di vedere dai tempi dei migliori Fleshtones. Non un nostalgico ritorno al passato, ma energia pura, potenti, precisi e affilati". L'entusiasmo enorme e il passaparola che si creano intorno alla musica dei Giuda, nonchè le loro elettrizzanti esibizioni live, lanciano presto la band fra le stelle più luminose nel firmamento della scena punk rock europea. Partono in tour in Italia, poi in Germania, Spagna, Francia, Belgio, e Gran Bretagna con un paio di show nei club di Londra. I Giuda sanno che è arrivato il momento di pensare a un nuovo album, così, mentre il numero di concerti continua a crescere e il tour diventa una sfida interessante, Lorenzo e gli altri membri della band cominciano a scrivere nuovi pezzi e a provarli dal vivo, complici il desiderio e la necessità di incrementare la scaletta dello show. Il sound che prende forma nelle nuove composizioni è più complesso, più maturo e rock, se paragonato a quello del disco precedente. La musica è ora scritta per due chitarre, la band è consapevole del tipo di suono vintage che ha in mente e di come ottenerlo in fase di registrazione. In effetti i Giuda sono pronti per tornare in studio, di nuovo con il produttore Danilo Silvestri al Green Mountain Studio, e nel novembre 2014 il loro secondo album "Let's Do It Again" vede la luce. La fase di scrittura e l'uscita di "Let's Do It Again" segnano l'inizio della collaborazione con la storica agenzia di booking Barley Arts e, in particolare, con Marco Ercolani, che, immediatamente conquistato e fiducioso nel potenziale della band, si rivelerà grande professionista e amico sincero.
Il gruppo inizia così il nuovo tour, cominciando ad esibirsi in maniera capillare in tutta Italia e in Europa, inspazi di crescente prestigio e riuscendo a farsi conoscere in un ambito più allargato. È infatti questo il periodo in cui gli ambienti più influenti dell'underground europeo cominciano a dare credito ai Giuda, dando loro la possibilità di prendere parte agli appuntamenti musicali più blasonati come il DCODE Fest di Madrid, con nomi in cartellone come Franz Ferdinand e Vampire Week-End, i festival Punk "Punk and Disorderly " di Berlino e il "Rebellion Fest" di Blackpool con NoFX e Killing Joke tra gli altri, e poi il "Frequency Fest" in Austria e l'HellFest in Francia dove i Giuda suonano sul palco principale prima di ZZ Top, Slash, Scorpions e analoghe leggende. Dopo innumerevoli apprezzamenti dalla stampa estera e in particolare da parte delle testate mainstream inglesi come NME, Classic Rock, The Guardian, Mojo, anche in Italia la stampa specializzata e non solo si interessa in modo sempre più insistente ai Giuda. Dapprima La Repubblica, poi Rolling Stone ed altri a seguire pubblicano articoli e recensioni di tutto rispetto, fino a quando un servizio del TG1 e un live in diretta nazionale su Radio2 Rai fanno sì che il nome del gruppo cominci ad emergere dal ristretto giro di nicchia arrivando ad un pubblico sempre più vasto, curioso di sapere di più su questa band di Roma, che suona rock di stampo seventies, canta in Inglese ed è riuscita a conquistare il pubblico e la stampa dei Paesi che hanno dato i natali a quel genere musicale. La multinazionale dell'editoria BMG Rights, si interessa ai Giuda e li mette sotto contratto, acquisendo le edizioni del primo e del secondo album, accrescendo di fatto il potenziale della band, specialmente sotto il punto vista non più strettamente legato al live. Grazie alla sinergia creata, nei mesi a seguire 3 tracce dei Giuda entrano a far parte della colonna sonora del film di Fausto Brizzi che esce nel Marzo 2016. Il nome Giuda gira, personaggi importanti della musica internazionale come Joe Elliot, frontman dei Def Leppard, parla di loro e li inserisce, con il singolo "Number 10", nella classifica delle 200 canzoni da dover assolutamente ascoltare. A tutto questo fa seguito un nuovo tour europeo che dall'inizio del 2015, porta il gruppo a suonare praticamente ovunque in Europa e ad aprire concerti di artisti di fama internazionale come Turbonegro, Danko Jones, Broilers fra gli altri. Il tour conterà 126 show in 12 mesi, mentre la band è già al lavoro al nuovo album. All'inizio del 2015 un altro importante accadimento segna il percorso artistico dei Giuda: incontrano Burning Heart Records nella figura di Peter Ahlqvist, un personaggio che in due decenni ha scoperto e reso famose band come Parkway Drive, Millencolin, Turbonegro, Refused e The Hives. Il 20 novembre esce ͞Speaks Evil͟, terzo album in studio della band e primo realizzato con l'etichetta svedese, che lo pubblica in formato CD, vinile e digitale, in Europa, Gran Bretagna, Stati Uniti e Canada. I Giuda lo presentano con un release party il 27 novembre all'Orion Club di Roma per l'Italia, seguito il 5 dicembre da un analogo evento per la scena internazionale al Lexington Club di Londra, sold out con largo anticipo. Giuda's history dates back in 2007, when from the smoking ashes of Rome's punk rock cult band Taxi a new project is born. When Taxi's career is cut short by the tragic passing of their drummer, the singer Ntendarere "Tenda" Damas and lead guitarist Lorenzo Moretti regroup as Giuda. The current line-up of the band is rounded out by guitarist Michele Malagnini (formerly guitar player of the hardcore band Steaknives) adding a second layer of boogie sparks to the mix, while bassist Danilo Valeri (reappearing from an early incarnation of Taxi) and drummer Daniele Tarea, who used to play for a punk rock band called Bagbies. From the very beginning the sound of Giuda is full of early 70's pre-punk, glitter days when music was all about monstrous riffs, boisterous attitudes, high energy experimentation and fun. Giuda take that same glammy, proto-punk foundation and fuse it with the grimy, tattered muck of bands like Third World War, Eddie And The Hot Rods and Cock Sparrer to create a timeless arsenal of glam injected, pub rock classics. Their debut album ͞Racey Roller͟ comes to light in 2011: famously described by Robin Wills (The Barracudas) as ͞Cock Sparrer twinned with the Equals͟, quickly becomes an underground sensation. ͞Racey Roller͟, recorded with vintage all-analogue studio equipment by studio sorcerers Ufo Hi-Fi, and graced with an iconic cover art, courtesy of French designer and glam fanatic Tony CrazeeKid, is released by US indie Dead Beat Records, TKO, UK Damaged Goods and Italian Fungo Records, selling total of 10.000 copies. Self-confessed Giuda fan Phil King (Lush, Jesus And Mary Chain) wrote about a concert played by the band at London's Buffalo Bar in 2011: ͞their performance transported me back to the heady days of watching punk groups play in the back rooms of dodgy London pubs in 1977′′. Robin Wills agrees: ͞This is the most fun I have enjoyed watching a live band since The Fleshtones in their prime. This is no single minded retro trip, but pure energy, loud, tight and concise.͟The big enthusiastic buzz aroused by Giuda and their music and thrilling gigs soon launches the band as new killer star of punk rock scene around Europe: they start touring Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, and the UK with a handful of shows in London. Giuda decide the time has come for a new album. the Italian band is admitted to play some of the most valuable live events around Europe: the D-CODE Festival in Madrid, where they share the billing with top stars like Franz Ferdinand and Vampire Weekends; the Punk and Disorderly Festival in Berlin and Rebellion Fest in Blackpool where the program report NoFX, Killing Joke and others alike on stage along with Giuda; then the Frequency Fest in Austria and recently the glorious Hellfest, in 2015, where Giuda play on the festival's main stage in the same billing with such rock legends as ZZ Top, Scorpions, Slash and more. In the meanwhile Giuda keep arousing enthusiastic comments and appreciation on the international media, In fact UK mainstream music media like NME, CLASSIC ROCK, THE GUARDIAN, MOJO hail the band from Rome as one of the most fresh, interesting next big thing around for years. In Italy as well, many important media acknowledge Giuda's value: LA REPUBBLICA, ROLLING STONE and others write about the band and review their albums and live shows in awe and admiration. The niche where Giuda have artistically grown is destined to widen as RAI1 Tv News dedicate a piece to the band during their 8p.m prime time edition, soon followed by a live broadcast show on Radio 2 national network. It's still 2014 but Giuda have been running the universe and played more than 50 live gigs in the latest few months. While key people of the music business highlight their name in many occasions, eg. Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot lists their single "Number 10" in his recommended "must listen" Top 200 songs, corporate label BMG Right Entertainment signs Giuda, acquiring the editorial rights of their 2 albums "Racey Roller" and "Let's Do It Again" Soon a new tour follows at the beginning of 2015, taking the band play gigs in almost every country in Europe, either as headliner or as special guest in the tours of legendary acts like Turbonegro, Danko Jones, Broilers and alike. The tour will count 126 live shows in just 12 months, while the band start working on a brand new album. At the turn of 2015 Giuda meet Peter Ahlqvist, legendary founder of Burning Heart Records (Parkway Drive, Millencolin, Turbonegro, Refused and The Hives are among the label's stunning successes). The signing of a contract of recording and management for the release of Giuda's third album, expected by late 2015, leads the band to a new challenge. On November 20th Giuda release "Speaks Evil" with Burning Heart that publishes the album on CD, vinyl and digital version across Italy, Europe, Uk, Canada and the US. The album is officially presented to the Italian and international audience and media by 2 packed release parties, Rome Orion Club on Nov 27th and The Lexington in London on Dec 5th, sold out in advance. The Speaks Evil Tour 2015-2016, exclusively booked by Marco Ercolani for Barley Arts, takes off immediately after and is currently visiting clubs and festivals across Italy, Europe and the UK, while it will soon head to the US for more gigs and festivals in the main cities of the country and then be back in Europe with a brand new Summer Tour.
